Advanced Career Training Updates

Here’s Why You Should Offer UI/UX Design Course to Your Students

User experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design offer a lucrative career option to students who are passionate about graphic design. There’s a high demand for UX/UI experts, and those working within this industry enjoy diverse and interesting work opportunities. Moreover, the pathway to a fulfilling UI/UX career can be fairly direct (as long as the candidate has the right approach and training).

Let’s take a look at why UI/UX is a valuable career opportunity for 2021 (and beyond) and how our new UX/UI design course can help prepare your students for better growth prospects.

What is User Experience (UX) Design?

UX design involves the creation of products that offer meaningful and relevant experiences to users. This includes designing the entire process of procuring and integrating the product, including aspects of branding, design, usability, and function.

What is User Interface (UI) Design?

UI design involves building interfaces in digital products, concentrating on appearance or style. This includes creating interfaces that are easy to use and enjoyable for the users.

UX Designers vs. UI Designers: What’s the Difference?

UX designers are responsible for creating the best experience for the user when they interact with a digital device or product. They are mainly concerned with analyzing users, understanding their behavior, and mapping a user journey that facilitates the user to complete their desired tasks with the least effort.

On the other hand, the key concern of UI designers is to analyze how a user navigates through a digital product. UI design is often considered a function of UX design, so you will see both terms being used interchangeably in job titles and descriptions. Sometimes, both fall under the responsibility of a product designer.

Occupational Outlook of UI/UX Designers
  • UI/UX Designers are expected to grow 14.9% over the next 10 years.
  • Around 59,414 UI/UX jobs were posted in the last 12 months.
  • The median salary of a UI/UX designer is $90,881.
  • UX design was one of the top five in-demand skills in 2020, which is likely to continue this year as Google has declared UX as a key ranking factor.
  • The employment of UI/UX designers is likely to grow 8% from 2019 to 2029, much faster than the average for all professions.
  • Demand for UI/UX designers is driven by the continued popularity of mobile devices and eCommerce.
What Skills Do Students Need for a Successful UI/UX Design Career?

A UX/UI designer needs to have a functional understanding of coding. They have to reflect the brand’s strengths and personality impeccably throughout the product interface. As the role combines elements of research psychology and digital design, a UI/UX designer needs focused training in both subjects to deliver quality products and services.

Some of the specialized skills include UX wireframes, user research, JavaScript, prototyping, Adobe Photoshop, and Visual Design. Typically, a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Graphic Design, Web Development, or related field is needed. People who enjoy bringing abstract concepts to life and collaborating with a team on creative initiatives are likely to perform well in the UI/UX design role.

Jobs and Companies that Hire UI/UX Designers

The top three industries that hire UI/UX designers are:

  • Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services
  • Finance and Insurance
  • Information

The top three employers that hire UI/UX designers are:

  • Amazon
  • Anthem Blue Cross
  • Inner City Fund (ICF)
Why Should You Offer UX/UI Design Course?

In a report UX after Covid: What can we expect?, many industry leaders forecasted a greater demand for UX/UI and digital skills as businesses increase their online capabilities. In addition, companies are likely to gain a competitive advantage with better UX/UI design than their competitors.

According to John Dennehy, founder of Zartis (an IT recruitment company), many in-house and agency recruiters find it challenging to fill UX/UI roles due to a knowledge gap. Consequently, many UX/UI roles remain vacant.

Therefore, by training students in this field, you can provide them with ample opportunities to explore a lucrative and viable career option that will continue to grow as more and more businesses focus on online products and services.

Comprehensive Certification Training for Aspiring Pharmacy Technicians

Female pharmacist or pharmacy technician

Health care continues to be one of the fastest-growing sectors, and pharmacy tech is a profession in top demand. Many states require pharmacy technician certification, so there is a huge opportunity for training providers to offer a pharmacy technician certification course.

What Is a Pharmacy Technician?

Pharmacy technicians help pharmacists dispense prescription medication to customers. They interact with patients to collect information, fill a prescription, and answer questions. They prepare and package medications for distribution to patients under the supervision of a pharmacist. In most states, pharmacy technicians can compound or mix some medications. They can also operate automated dispensing equipment when filling prescription orders.

There is also a lot of clerical work involved. For instance, pharmacy technicians take inventory and order supplies and medications. They encode patient information along with their prescriptions into a database.

Pharmacy technicians work in pharmacies in hospitals, healthcare facilities, and grocery stores. Other work environments are research labs, pharmaceutical companies, and health insurance firms.

Job Outlook and Salary

With an aging population and increasing rates of chronic diseases, there is a growing need for prescription medications. As pharmacists perform more patient care work like administering flu shots, pharmacy technicians take on more tasks previously done by pharmacists.

Demand

There is a steadily growing demand for pharmacy technicians. The US Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS) expects the pharmacy technician job market to grow 4% from 2019 to 2029. A JobRx report projects a higher growth rate of 7% between 2018 and 2028.

Most states require pharmacy technicians to be trained and certified. As such, the demand for a pharmacy technician certification course continues to be strong.

Salary

According to the BLS, pharmacy technicians earn a median annual wage of $35,100 as of May 2020. Hospitals tend to pay more, with a median salary of $39,290. The highest 10% earned more than $50,430.

Pharmacy Technician Certification

Many states regulate pharmacy technicians. They usually require technicians to take formal education or training programs. Even where it is not required, undergoing a pharmacy technician course could make it easier to secure a job. The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) offers certification, primarily the Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) designation. Applicants must complete a pharmacy technician course in the USA, for example, ed2go’s PTCB-accredited pharmacy technician course with an exam voucher included, or equivalent work experience, and pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam® (PTCE®).

Offering Pharmacy Technician Courses

ed2go has two online courses that allow partners to take advantage of the growing demand for pharmacy technicians.

Our introductory course, “Explore a Career as a Pharmacy Technician,” gives an overview of the pharmacy industry and the profession of a pharmacy technician. This is a good short foundational course for those considering entering this profession but who are not yet ready to fully commit.

For those who want to take the PTCE, our Pharmacy Technician Online Certification Training is a leading online course for pharmacy technicians. It is an accredited online pharmacy technician course and a registered pharmacy technician course by the PTCB.

The pharmacy technician course includes an introduction to pharmacy and pharmacy law and ethics, pharmaceutical calculations, pharmacology, communication skills and billing, and lab practice. It is 400-course hours that can be completed in 12 months. Our pharmacy technician prep course will help applicants get a passing score on the PTCB exam.

An exam voucher is included in the course fee.  Also, part of our Pharmacy Technician Online Certification Training course is an option to perform a 100-hour clinical externship to gain experience.

With a comprehensive curriculum, PTCB accreditation, online on-demand delivery, and clinical externship, our Pharmacy Technician Online Certification Training equips aspiring pharmacy technicians to pass the exam and get real-world training to boost their chances of getting hired in this in-demand field.

Industry Insights: Careers in Medical Billing

Medical billers play an important role in the healthcare system as hospitals and other medical facilities rely on prompt billing practices to ensure a healthy flow of revenue for the continued care of patients.

When beginning a career in medical billing, not only will students enter a growing healthcare field, but also starting a job that patients, physicians, insurance providers, and other healthcare workers can’t succeed without. Curious? Here’s what students need to know:

What is the difference between medical billing and medical coding?

While the terms medical billing and coding are often used synonymously, medical billers and medical coders actually perform very different roles. Medical coders are the people who gather information on patient records and assign the proper codes for patient diagnoses which are then used by medical billers. Medical billers are responsible for submitting patient records once the appropriate codes have been assigned to government agencies and insurance companies. Their work ensures that payment is received for services that have been provided in the care of a patient. Our new Medical Billing Specialist course offers valuable training in legal, ethical, and regulatory concepts that are central to this field, including HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) compliance, fraud and abuse in medical billing, and third-party payer guidelines. Students will also understand all phases of the revenue cycle, including patient registration, charge capture, medical coding, claim submission, data analytics, payer reimbursement, patient billing, and collection practices to prepare them for a rewarding healthcare career.

Are there jobs for medical billers?

According to Burning Glass, there were nearly 30,000 jobs posted nationwide for medical billers in the last year. Even more qualified medical billers will be needed soon as a 13.5 percent growth in employment is expected in this field during the next 10 years, according to Burning Glass Technologies.

What kind of education is needed to become a medical biller?

For a career in medical billing, one will first need to obtain a high school diploma or GED. Students will then need to enroll in a program that will provide them with valuable professional training and experience with medical billing to increase the prospects of landing a job. Our new Medical Billing Specialist course provides students with the necessary hands-on experience and real-world examples they need to have comprehensive, up-to-date training in medical billing that can set them apart from other candidates. Like our course, many certificate programs can be completed entirely online in one year or less, allowing students to begin working in an externship or similar situation to gain experience as soon as they complete their coursework.

Do students need an industry certification?

While students will most likely need professional training to enter a career as a medical biller, certification is not always required. However, certification shows potential employers that they have a commitment to professional success and possess in-depth knowledge of the standards used in the industry. Earning a recognized medical billing certification like the Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or Certified Electronic Health Record Specialist (CEHRS) may also help students earn a higher salary and be more competitive in the job market.

What kind of salary do medical billers earn?

Burning Glass reports that the annual median salary for medical billers is $32,172. However, according to the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) 2019 Salary Survey, medical billers who have earned the Certified Professional Biller (CPB) certification have an average annual salary of $55,078.

How does someone get started in this career field?

The Medical Billing Specialist course from ed2go will allow your students to gain the training they need entirely online in a self-paced format. They will even prepare for the Certified Professional Biller (CPB) exam offered by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) and the Certified Electronic Health Record Specialist (CEHRS) exam through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), and a voucher for the Certified Professional Biller (CPB) exam is included with their course.

This course is different from ed2go’s other medical billing and coding training courses because it is laser-focused on a career in medical billing without excess information on medical coding. Instead, students will learn from scenario-based content, including interactivities and hands-on practice with claims and coding, which will better prepare them for success in their new career. Students will even receive access to an optional “How to Find a Job in Medical Billing” lesson as well as an Externship Starter Kit that can help them find an externship in their area and gain valuable on-the-job experience as well as potential employment.

Upon completing our course, students will be fully prepared to work on a health information management team, auditing records, compiling reports for patient tracking, and coordinating the systems that keep our healthcare facilities operating.

If you have elected to auto-add new titles to your catalog, then no further action is required. Otherwise, you will need to add the new Medical Billing Specialist course manually in the Online Administration Center.  If you are unsure if you have the auto-add feature set up or would like to learn more, contact your Account Manager

The Importance of Hands-On Photoshop Experience for Graphic Designers

How students of all backgrounds can benefit from our redesigned course

We have redesigned our Graphic Design with Photoshop course to better train beginner graphic design students from all types of creative and non-creative backgrounds who are looking to expand their understanding of graphic design tools, concepts, and terminologyThis includes helping students build a portfolio of projects and skills they can implement in the real world.

Demand for skilled graphic designers is rising

The need for innovativeprofessionally designed interactive media keeps growing, which means the demand for qualified graphic designers will continue to rise. In fact, Burning Glass Technologies reports that 37,630 jobs for graphic designers were posted within the last 12 months, and 40 percent of those jobs required applicants to have minimum of 0-2 years of experience. It also projects a 4.2 percent growth in the profession over the next 10 years. Due to this robust growth, education that can provide people with the confidence and skills to enter this in-demand field is desperately needed

Graphic Designer median salary, $53,380

The Graphic Design with Photoshop course from ed2go was developed a few years ago to provide beginning and aspiring graphic designers with the skills they need to enter a new career. However, we felt that our course could use some revamping to offer more hands-on, interactive learning that students could apply in the real world—no matter their career field

Previously, the course focused on creating marketing materials using Photoshop. Its learning path started by teaching students how to interact with clients and contained one lesson on design fundamentals. A typical lesson had eight hours of textbook reading with about one hour of online course content. Many of the projects taught in the course would typically be completed in InDesign or Illustrator in the real world, not Photoshop, and we felt that the 200-hour program length was unnecessarily long. Overall it was a good course for students to get their feet wet in the world of graphic design, but we felt it could be improved.

We have made some big changes…for the better

We now teach graphic design fundamentals bolstered by hands-on projects using Photoshop CC in each lesson of the Graphic Design with Photoshop course. The redesigned learning path will introduce students to Photoshop CC and graphic design fundamentals at the beginning of the course. Graphic design fundamentals are then reiterated as lessons progress and reinforced in each project-based lesson assignment.

The course contains all new Screencast videos illustrating how to use Photoshop tools and create visual elements—replacing videos that were once voice-over PowerPoints. It also includes two key lessons to help boost soft skills needed for employment and guides students through building their professional portfolio using Adobe Behancea web-based site for showcasing and sharing creative work. This all combines to further give students the tools they need to be able to begin a successful career in graphic design or apply what they learned in their current career after completing the course.

Additional changes we have made:

  • Program hours have been reduced from 200hours down to 130hours
  • Reliance on textbooks has been reduced by strategically replacing reading with key narrative content
  • Lessons have been authored so the main concepts are introduced in the online portion of the course
  • Readings are now assigned to help reinforce conceptual learning
  • More projects have been added that will give students practice with assignments they are likely to see in the real world
  • Graphic design concepts are taught starting with fundamentals and are reinforced throughout the course
  • The use of rich media and video has been increased to make the course more compelling

When will this course be available?

The new and improved Graphic Design with Photoshop course will be available on May 27, 2021. Contact your Account Manager to learn more or to add this course to your catalog today.

TOP 5 REASONS TO CHOOSE A MEDICAL BILLING AND CODING CAREER

Stethoscope with Pen, Charts and Graphs, Finance, Account, Statistics, Investment, Analytic Research Data Economy Spreadsheet and Business Company Concept

Jobs continue to grow in medical billing and coding, and in a time when jobs are hard to come by, you could help provide the education people need to enter this in-demand field.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), jobs in medical billing and coding are expected to grow 8 percent through 2029. This is double the average expected national job growth of 4 percent and equates to 29,000 additional trained medical billing and coding professionals needed within the next eight years. This strong job growth will be fueled by an aging population, increasing reliance on health informatics, and the move of more healthcare providers to electronic health records systems.

Magnifying Glass,50,000 job postings

In addition to growing job prospects in medical billing and coding, there are many other reasons that make this career a great move.

  • Medical billing and coding offers a relatively easy field to enter. Professionals looking to start a career in medical billing and coding need only earn a certification that shows their commitment to excellence. Certificates can be completed online in a relatively short amount of time meaning students can enter the field quickly and take advantage of the job growth we are seeing today.
  • Professionals can often work from home in a medical billing and coding career. While some medical billing and coding workers do report for their roles on-site, a majority have the flexibility to work remotely. In fact, according to the HIM Professional Census 2020 conducted by Libman Education, more than 50 percent of coders working for hospitals and health systems are fully remote-based employees; only 17 percent of coders reported that they were based entirely on-site. This information was collected at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and based on the shuttering of selective services, creating temporary facilities, incorporating new communication methods, and re‐deploying trained healthcare workforce in new ways.
  • Medical billing and coding is a great first step towards a career in healthcare. Every area of medicine requires medical billers and coders. Professionals in this field will be able to put their toes in the water and try out any and all of the specialties that interest them while gaining valuable experience before committing to a longer healthcare education program.
  • Medical billing and coding allows people to work part-time. Medical billing and coding can be a full-time career, but it can also be a great option for those who want to work part-time. The work is extremely flexible and could even be done on nights and weekends to earn extra money.
  • Medical billing and coding professionals, even those who are part-time, can earn a good salary. According to the BLS, the median annual salary of medical billers and coders is $42,630 or just over $20 per hour. Those working in hospitals make slightly more, while those who choose to work for physicians’ offices may make slightly less. The top 10 percent of those in the profession currently earn over $70,000 per year. Hand holding dollar bill
