Joining the Ranks of Army CA-Approved Vendors

Female Soldier

Benefits of Offering Army CA Credentials at Your Institution

Our needs as a society are changing, and the landscape of career education continues to change along with it. People continue to pursue four-year and two-year college degrees but are often looking for a faster way to advance in their careers or upskill to qualify for new careers.

According to a recent reportfrom Strada Education Network, key findings showed that certificates and certifications boosted employability and earnings premiums for veterans without degrees. To this end, the military has recently started the Army Credentialing Assistance (CA) program. The Army CA program offers funding for Soldiers to pursue additional credentials both within their time in service and as they transition into civilian careers. As Partners, you have a chance to create new opportunities for Soldiers while expanding your enrollments.

What is the Army Credentialing Assistance (CA) Program?

The Army CA program provides Active Duty, Army Reserve, and Army National Guard Soldiers an opportunity to pursue technical and industry-recognized professional credentials, completely online, with funding from the military. It is a voluntary program that provides financial assistance for off-duty training to pursue and earn credentials. Some popular choices are information technology (IT), cybersecurity, project management, and medical billing and coding. According to the U.S. Army, credentialing assistance keeps the Army competitive with its counterparts in the civilian community and develops a Soldier’s skills.  The program is a result of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) of 2012. At that time, it began offering Army credentialing assistance in pilot programs at the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command. Those pilots are now well-established, helping the Army live up to its goal of contributing to Total Army readiness. The Army says the program also helps retain quality Soldiers and prepare them for meaningful employment when they transition from service in the military.

Take Advantage of a New Funding Opportunity

An increase in credentialing strengthens the military as well as the broader community. Improved qualifications help combat veterans’ unemployment levels when they leave the service. The Army will fund up to $4,000 to qualifying soldiers per fiscal year to increase their skills, credentials, and professionalism. This funding covers various educational needs like fees, textbooks, materials, training, study guides, textbooks, and the cost of certification exams. With those tools, you have another group of interested students you can serve at your institution.

Increase Enrollments

Due to the growing need for educational alternatives among Soldiers, you can enter a newer, untapped market that can provide renewable annual enrollments. Soldiers seeking additional credentialing, both within their military occupation specialty (MOS) and outside of it, have quite a bit to draw them to the Army CA program. Tuition assistance makes education more accessible; the hybrid nature of online coursework with on-the-job training is especially valuable to military members, including those with dependents they are supporting through their service. Also, they can study at their own pace while deployed from anywhere and work around their schedule.

Your institution can add to its enrollment by taking advantage of the flexible, online instruction in the Army CA program through offering coursework as an ed2go Partner. We can guide you through the process of becoming an Army CA-approved vendor and choosing the courses most likely to attract military members using the Army credentialing assistance option.

Unlock New Opportunities as an Army CA-Approved Partner

Getting an Army credential through the Army CA program creates an opportunity for military members to improve their educational qualifications both during military service and when transitioning out of service—even part-time online.

As previously mentioned, the Army CA program covers up to $4,000 per fiscal year to pursue professional certification and credentials. That additional funding helps you, an ed2go Partner, offer more coursework and increase your student enrollments.

To learn more about how ed2go Partners can help you become an Army CAapproved vendor, please see the flyer,  ARMY CA PROVIDES RENEWABLE ANNUAL ENROLLMENTS.  Students receive a certificate of course completion through their selected school and a certificate through the certifying body after passing their course exam. You can also view our recent Army CA Webinar, on the ed2go Partner site for additional information.

Reasons to Offer Supply Chain and Freight Broker Training in 2021

Boxes in a warehouse

As we shift to a new normal, there is an increased need for on-time deliveries to millions of locations nationwide, rapidly growing the supply chain and logistics industry. As a result, this is a great time to encourage students to pursue supply chain management and freight broker/agent training. According to Burning Glass Technologies, the combination of freight transportation and supply chain logistics knowledge will grow in demand by 21.2% in the next 10 years, and you can be at the forefront of offering this type of in-demand education.

Did you know that students can complete supply chain management and freight broker/agent training and start a home-based business entirely online? Here are five reasons to offer supply chain and freight broker/agent training to your students.

1. Provide students with a complete view of supply chain management and the freight broker/agent industry

In this comprehensive, online course, students will get a complete view and detailed knowledge of the logistics industry to help them better understand their role and their reliance on others. They will learn about the connection between planning, sourcing, manufacturing, and delivering for an integrated supply chain, as well as everything they need to run a successful freight brokerage or agency in the U.S.

2. Give students a competitive edge in the job market

Help students develop a robust knowledge of the entire supply chain—something many others competing for jobs in the industry may not have. As a result, demand for logistics knowledge in supply chain management and freight broker/agent training is growing. This combination of skills will drive efficiency in the supply chain and give students a competitive edge in the market whether they choose to pursue a career in supply chain management, as a freight broker/agent, or even start their own business in this field.

3. Students can complete training and begin a new career in 12 months or less

This program provides students with a self-paced, online education. They will have 12 months to complete the program, supported by expert instructors Wayne Durr and Jan Roach. Wayne is a global supply chain manager with over 30 years of supply chain experience with the U.S. Army, U.S. Government, Fortune 500 companies, and startups. Jan ran a brokerage/freight agency for over 10 years, and both are ready to impart their valuable knowledge to students to begin a successful career in the industry.

4. Enable students to earn a high salary in this in-demand field

According to, the average freight service company salary is $62,105 with an additional $28,000 in commissions, with supply chain professionals making an average of $80,000, according to the Association for Supply Chain Management. Additionally, professional certifications can help students earn even more. As a part of the Supply Chain Professional + Freight Broker/Agent Training course, students will prepare for the Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) exam. According to a salary survey conducted by the Institute for Supply Chain Management, professionals with a CSCP designation earn an average salary of $125,996 (up 5.4% from just a year earlier).

5. Produce job opportunities and resources to help students start a business

As a part of this program, students will receive access to a weekly event hosted by Brooke Transportation Training Solutions called Resource Friday. This virtual event, held every Friday, is designed to allow graduates to meet and discuss agent positions with participating freight brokerages. In addition, the best businesses and brokers in the industry will talk with graduates about starting their own brokerage, working as an agent for another firm, and other career opportunities at these events. This excellent resource is ONLY available through the ed2go program

While freight brokering is found at the end of the supply chain in the logistics industry, it is essential for both supply chain managers and freight brokers/agents to have an accurate view of the entire process and how to make it successful.

Stackable Credentials and Certifications Provided Necessary Training for Today’s Workforce

mortarboard, stack of books and laptop

When it comes to education, 2-year and 4-year degrees have historically been the standard by which most employers measure applicants, but this is beginning to shift. A traditional degree is no longer considered the only viable form of education, and many employers want applicants to have hard skills and experience to hit the ground running. As a result, professional certifications continue to rise in importance, especially in some of the fastest-growing job sectors today, including technology, healthcare, project management, support, and paralegal—to name a few.

66% of respondents preferred non-degree education pathways

Traditional college programs are great options for some, but they are not for everyone. The Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) published results from a Strada Education Network survey that showed adult students have concerns about the value of education. 2020 vs. 2019 comparisons of adults contemplating college show they are 18 percent less likely to believe it will be worth the cost and 25 percent less likely to think that additional education will help them land a good job. These same surveys indicated that more than 66 percent of respondents preferred non-degree education pathways (up from 50 percent the previous year). ed2go can help you add courses to your online education program that will allow you to reach more students.

Stackable certifications could be the answer

Stackable credentials and industry certifications offer several advantages, especially for non-traditional students who want to find employment, move up in their careers, or into an entirely different career. Some benefits include:

1. Quicker career launch opportunities

When it comes to stackable credentials and industry certifications, they are often obtained relatively quickly compared to traditional degree programs. For example, a student can gain skills relevant to a role in IT as a Help Desk Analyst: Tier 1 Support Specialist, in project management with Project Management Essentials with CAPM Prep, in healthcare with ICD-10 Medical Coding, and many other areas that will prepare them for a job in around six months. In addition, these types of programs allow students to test the waters quickly and design a customized career path that is unique to their individual goals.

2. A more affordable solution

Because stackable credentials can be completed more quickly than traditional degree programs, professionals can land a job and start earning a good salary in their chosen field. This can be done while they continue to work their way up by earning more and more certifications and potentially even a degree to help them advance in their position. These stackable credentials and industry certifications are also much more affordable. reports that the average cost of college in the United States has tripled in the last 20 years and now sits at $35,720 per student, per year on average. When you factor in student loan interest and loss of income, the total cost of earning a degree may be higher than $400,000.

There are an estimated 7.4 million job openings in America, with unemployment data showing 9.7 million people out of work. This is because people do not currently have the skills they need to land in-demand jobs quickly and affordably. We are trying to bridge this gap with affordable training that can be completed in a fraction of the time it takes to earn a traditional degree. For example, most Advanced Career Training Programs from ed2go can be completed for under $2,500, and many include vouchers to sit for industry-leading certification exams at no additional cost to the student. These programs also often qualify for workforce grants that can help students pay for their education because they provide in-demand job training and skills currently needed in the workforce. ed2go can even offer support in grant identification and application.

3. Increased course flexibility

All of ed2go’s stackable credentials and certification prep programs are available in online learning environments. Online learning allows students to log in and complete coursework as it fits their schedule. They can even continue working and balancing family responsibilities while gaining experience or going through a traditional education program and earning their new credential. These types of credentials are even conducive to a military lifestyle—whether active military or a military spouse—because they can be completed from anywhere in the world.

4. Better preparation for future employment with in-demand skills and knowledge

Stackable credentials and certifications can be aligned directly with employer needs and industry trends. These programs do not lock students into a lengthy program before getting their feet wet, and they are continuously and quickly revised to meet the demands of new jobs and technologies.

Students can complete courses and earn certifications to prove mastery of specific skill sets required by employers, which will help them qualify for jobs and promotions. Many professionals even use these stackable credentials as a springboard into an industry and go on to complete traditional associate’s and bachelor’s degree programs. The University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA) reports that several organizations are now coming together to help people earn industry-specific certifications, regardless of educational background, and guaranteeing jobs for those who do.

Why should this matter to you?

More and more companies are seeing the value in stackable credentials and certifications, and they are quickly making changes in the way they hire.

ed2go has helped other organizations expand their course offerings and increase enrollments for over 15 years. Online Skills Training Enables Student Success Through Employable Skills and Knowledge

Female sitting by laptop wearing headphones getting education online

Your students want the opportunity for job training and skill development. Still, they may be fearful of starting a program because they have most likely been out of the classroom for a while, in addition to balancing work, family, and other challenges. Online learning is not new, but many people have yet to try it because they do not know what to expect. Here are some of the benefits associated with online learning—details that can help you put students at ease, including the importance of reskilling and upskilling in the current economic climate and ways to assure them that they can get proper career training, online.

Online learning allows for flexibility

When balancing work, family, and life stresses, flexibility in learning is essential. Online courses allow people to go back to school to get the education and training they need as it fits within their schedule. In addition, students can log in and complete coursework at any time, from wherever they have an internet connection. Online learning also allows individuals to move through content at their own pace—moving on when they have fully mastered the material versus keeping pace with the rest of their class.

Online learning helps students prepare for digital collaboration in the workplace

If 2020 taught us anything, it was how to work and collaborate with others in remote locations. We live and work in a global marketplace, and employees will often find themselves working on teams with people based in multiple locations and being forced to collaborate digitally. Online learning is great preparation for these situations that students will likely find themselves in during their careers. Students will need to participate in online discussions and chats with others completing the same courses to learn from them, complete assignments, and get the most out of their education.

Online learning demands respect from employers

There used to be a stigma that online learning was not as good as programs completed on campus, but this is no longer the case. Online learning is widely accepted as a high-quality form of learning, even one that can require more self-discipline according to an article from U.S. News & World Report. Courses are typically self-paced in online learning, meaning no instructor is standing over students, ensuring they complete assignments and progress through their program. It takes a lot of self-discipline to set, and stick to, a schedule—carving out time to study and ensuring that students fully grasp the material while moving forward. In addition, online students must be able to set goals and work toward them. This is something that employers value and want to see in potential candidates.

Online learning is growing in popularity

6M+ Students participate in online classes

Forbes reports that over six million students are participating in online courses, and this number is growing. Professional skills in areas like technology and allied health are extremely high, and the subjects are constantly evolving. As a result, designers of online courses have adapted and produced relevant learning content more quickly than traditional programs, driving the demand for these courses. Forbes also reports that the growth in popularity of online courses can be attributed to the increased use of technology in our daily lives. Because we are all more comfortable online with the use of computers and cell phones than we were 20 years ago, online learning has become more acceptable and viewed as a great way to obtain necessary job training.

The bottom line

Online learning is expanding worldwide. The market for online courses is expected to grow by $160 billion dollars in just 10 years. ed2go can helpOnline course market growth is $160B in the next 10 years make sure you have in-demand online courses and certifications in your catalog todayOver the past 15 years, ed2go has helped institutions and organizations expand course offerings, cut startup costs, and grow education enrollments by providing the courses students are looking for now and ensuring a great online learning experience

We strive to be there for students at every step of their enrollment course completion and beyond. Not only can we help you bypass development costs for creating and administering cutting-edge, in-demand training programs, but we will also work to ensure that your students get started on the right track, stay engaged in their courses, and gain the training and skills they want by completing their program.

Industry Insights: Careers in Medical Billing

Medical billers play an important role in the healthcare system as hospitals and other medical facilities rely on prompt billing practices to ensure a healthy flow of revenue for the continued care of patients.

When beginning a career in medical billing, not only will students enter a growing healthcare field, but also starting a job that patients, physicians, insurance providers, and other healthcare workers can’t succeed without. Curious? Here’s what students need to know:

What is the difference between medical billing and medical coding?

While the terms medical billing and coding are often used synonymously, medical billers and medical coders actually perform very different roles. Medical coders are the people who gather information on patient records and assign the proper codes for patient diagnoses which are then used by medical billers. Medical billers are responsible for submitting patient records once the appropriate codes have been assigned to government agencies and insurance companies. Their work ensures that payment is received for services that have been provided in the care of a patient. Our new Medical Billing Specialist course offers valuable training in legal, ethical, and regulatory concepts that are central to this field, including HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) compliance, fraud and abuse in medical billing, and third-party payer guidelines. Students will also understand all phases of the revenue cycle, including patient registration, charge capture, medical coding, claim submission, data analytics, payer reimbursement, patient billing, and collection practices to prepare them for a rewarding healthcare career.

Are there jobs for medical billers?

According to Burning Glass, there were nearly 30,000 jobs posted nationwide for medical billers in the last year. Even more qualified medical billers will be needed soon as a 13.5 percent growth in employment is expected in this field during the next 10 years, according to Burning Glass Technologies.

What kind of education is needed to become a medical biller?

For a career in medical billing, one will first need to obtain a high school diploma or GED. Students will then need to enroll in a program that will provide them with valuable professional training and experience with medical billing to increase the prospects of landing a job. Our new Medical Billing Specialist course provides students with the necessary hands-on experience and real-world examples they need to have comprehensive, up-to-date training in medical billing that can set them apart from other candidates. Like our course, many certificate programs can be completed entirely online in one year or less, allowing students to begin working in an externship or similar situation to gain experience as soon as they complete their coursework.

Do students need an industry certification?

While students will most likely need professional training to enter a career as a medical biller, certification is not always required. However, certification shows potential employers that they have a commitment to professional success and possess in-depth knowledge of the standards used in the industry. Earning a recognized medical billing certification like the Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or Certified Electronic Health Record Specialist (CEHRS) may also help students earn a higher salary and be more competitive in the job market.

What kind of salary do medical billers earn?

Burning Glass reports that the annual median salary for medical billers is $32,172. However, according to the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) 2019 Salary Survey, medical billers who have earned the Certified Professional Biller (CPB) certification have an average annual salary of $55,078.

How does someone get started in this career field?

The Medical Billing Specialist course from ed2go will allow your students to gain the training they need entirely online in a self-paced format. They will even prepare for the Certified Professional Biller (CPB) exam offered by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) and the Certified Electronic Health Record Specialist (CEHRS) exam through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), and a voucher for the Certified Professional Biller (CPB) exam is included with their course.

This course is different from ed2go’s other medical billing and coding training courses because it is laser-focused on a career in medical billing without excess information on medical coding. Instead, students will learn from scenario-based content, including interactivities and hands-on practice with claims and coding, which will better prepare them for success in their new career. Students will even receive access to an optional “How to Find a Job in Medical Billing” lesson as well as an Externship Starter Kit that can help them find an externship in their area and gain valuable on-the-job experience as well as potential employment.

Upon completing our course, students will be fully prepared to work on a health information management team, auditing records, compiling reports for patient tracking, and coordinating the systems that keep our healthcare facilities operating.

If you have elected to auto-add new titles to your catalog, then no further action is required. Otherwise, you will need to add the new Medical Billing Specialist course manually in the Online Administration Center.  If you are unsure if you have the auto-add feature set up or would like to learn more, contact your Account Manager

The Graphic Design with Photoshop course from ed2go was developed a few years ago to provide beginning and aspiring graphic designers with the skills they need to enter a new career. However, we felt that our course could use some revamping to offer more hands-on, interactive learning that students could apply in the real world—no matter their career field

Previously, the course focused on creating marketing materials using Photoshop. Its learning path started by teaching students how to interact with clients and contained one lesson on design fundamentals. A typical lesson had eight hours of textbook reading with about one hour of online course content. Many of the projects taught in the course would typically be completed in InDesign or Illustrator in the real world, not Photoshop, and we felt that the 200-hour program length was unnecessarily long. Overall it was a good course for students to get their feet wet in the world of graphic design, but we felt it could be improved.

We have made some big changes…for the better

We now teach graphic design fundamentals bolstered by hands-on projects using Photoshop CC in each lesson of the Graphic Design with Photoshop course. The redesigned learning path will introduce students to Photoshop CC and graphic design fundamentals at the beginning of the course. Graphic design fundamentals are then reiterated as lessons progress and reinforced in each project-based lesson assignment.

The course contains all new Screencast videos illustrating how to use Photoshop tools and create visual elements—replacing videos that were once voice-over PowerPoints. It also includes two key lessons to help boost soft skills needed for employment and guides students through building their professional portfolio using Adobe Behancea web-based site for showcasing and sharing creative work. This all combines to further give students the tools they need to be able to begin a successful career in graphic design or apply what they learned in their current career after completing the course.

Additional changes we have made:

  • Program hours have been reduced from 200hours down to 130hours
  • Reliance on textbooks has been reduced by strategically replacing reading with key narrative content
  • Lessons have been authored so the main concepts are introduced in the online portion of the course
  • Readings are now assigned to help reinforce conceptual learning
  • More projects have been added that will give students practice with assignments they are likely to see in the real world
  • Graphic design concepts are taught starting with fundamentals and are reinforced throughout the course
  • The use of rich media and video has been increased to make the course more compelling
