Please review the following details about an important change to our Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification courses and how these changes may affect your students and institution in the interim.
What has changed with GES1051?
In their September 29, 2023, newsletter, the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) announced that beginning January 1, 2024, they will require all RBT Competency Assessors and potential RBTs to be employed by the same agency—and clients used for the purpose of the Initial Competency Assessment must now receive services from the same agency. This means ed2go can no longer offer GES1051 – Registered Behavior Technician Training and Competency Assessment (Voucher Included) as the assessment will need to be performed by the employer, per BACB, starting January 1, 2024. The following courses will also be discontinued due to being part of the GES1051 course bundle:
- GES2133 – Child Development Associate with RBT (Voucher Included)
- GES2134 – Child Development Professional with RBT (Vouchers Included)
- GES2135 – Teacher’s Aide with RBT (Voucher Included)
We will discontinue GES1051 by November 15, 2023, to allow sufficient time for students enrolled in the course to complete the Initial Competency Assessment prior to December 31, 2023.
What is ed2go doing to support students?
ed2go student services will be contacting students on the certification change and the urgency for students to complete the Initial Competency Assessment by December 15, 2023.
Our instructors will make themselves available and extend their calendar availability to accommodate students within the next few weeks. Instructors will email students currently active within the assessment course but have not yet started.
All students who are on hold for GES1051 will also be notified. If a hold for GES1051 pushes students past December 31, 2023, the student cannot complete the Initial Competency Assessment requirement as part of the application process. Students can still opt to complete the ed2go 40-hour training course (GES1033), during which they will receive their training certificate from their instructor which is part of the BACB required documentation to apply for the RBT certification.
What action is required by my institution?
We ask that you ensure students enrolled in the impacted courses know the new deadlines and options available to them. Partners who have collected payment for actively enrolled students will receive a separate communication providing guidance on the options for those students and asking for the approach you wish to take. GES1051 was removed from our catalog on October 12, 2023.
If you have any other questions, please contact your Account Manager for additional support.
Thank you for making ed2go a part of your students’ educational journey.
