New Career Training Programs

Title: Federal Court Interpreter

In this program students will acquire the three interpreting skills – simultaneous, consecutive and sight translation. Students will learn the proper transfer of Criminal and Civil terminology into Spanish. Intensive online interpreting laboratory practices will give students the opportunity to practice what is learned in each lecture. This program is language specific – Spanish/English

Why should you market this program?

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs for translators and interpreters are expected to grow by 24% through 2024. You should market this program because it will allow you to capture some of this growth in one of the fastest growing job fields.

Federal Court Interpreter is a job field that many learners do not know about and yet many people with some training and by passing an exam would be able to qualify for this position. Federal and state staff court interpreters is between $30,000 and $80,000. State- and county-level courts can earn between $30,000 to $40,000 a year.

Why are we adding this program to the catalog?

We currently only have one career training program for professional interpreters but are expanding our offerings in this job field because of the growth in this sector.

Why would a student take this program?

A student would take this program if they are interested in the legal field and have bilingual capabilities in Spanish and English. Student learn both the criminal and civil terminology to work in the field as well as three different interpreting techniques simultaneous, consecutive and sight translation.

It also preps them to take the oral component of any State and Federal Court Interpreting Certification to become a Certified State and Federal Court Interpreter.

 


 
Title: Professional Translator

In this program students learn to translate documents into English and into Spanish. It also prepares students to sit for the American Translators Association (ATA) certification exam. Students will acquire the translation skills needed to properly transfer the written message into the opposite language without any language interference.

By offering courses in both interpretation and translation we hope to serve a larger portion of this market that is expected to grow significantly over the next decade.

A student would take this program if they enjoy writing and have bilingual capabilities in Spanish and English. Students learn the Proper transfer of grammatical structures into both English and Spanish and gain an understanding of cross-cultural differences that can have an impact on the transfer of the written message.

This course also prepares the learner to sit for the ATA certification exam.


Title: HVACR Controls/Building Automation Systems

The HVACR Controls / Building Automation Systems Program is an advanced program that will build on student knowledge of HVACR fundamentals and equipment.  Students will work their way through the program taking one course at a time in a systematic progression that will lay a good foundation. This program will cover commercial HVAC systems and the specific technologies of controls systems.

Why should you market this program?

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of jobs for Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Mechanics and Installers is expected to increase by 14% over the next decade.

It is also one of the few jobs that has median salary of $45,110 and does not require a college degree. It is also one of the occupations that is on the front lines of driving a green economy as people strive for more energy efficient building and heating and cooling systems.
 

Why are we adding this program to the catalog?

HVACR is one our most popular courses and the most popular course in the trades category.  We wanted to add a more advanced course for those that wanted to continue their learning in this arena and further their careers and income.

Why would a student take this program?

A student would take this course if they already have knowledge of HVACR fundamentals and equipment but want to learn more about commercial HVAC systems which can open the learner to work as a Controls Technician or a Facilities Maintenance Technician.

Title: GES429 – Payroll Practice and Management (Voucher Included)

Due to changes in the requirements to sit for the CPP exam, we will no longer offer the voucher option for this program and do not yet know when we will be able to offer this option again.

Catalog Update

Title: GES265 – HVACR Certified Technician

Update: The catalog was updated to reflect the change in module order. The EPA 608 Refrigeration Usage Review module was moved from the last module to in-between the 242 R-410A Refrigerant Technology and the 241 HVACR Intro to Cooling System Troubleshooting modules.
